EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT

Do not talk to the police without an attorney being present.

The police are allowed to lie to you to get a confession but you are not allowed to lie to them. Always have a memorized emergency contact number so that you or your attorney can contact your family.

You will automatically get a court appointed attorney who will talk with you before you go before a judge. Help yourself and that attorney by not talking to the police. EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT!!!

KNOW YOUR RESOURCES

Go to your district Court’s website to find out everything about your case including if a warrant has been issued. In Detroit, it is 36thdistrictcourt.org

If you have an outstanding warrant at the 36th District Court and want to turn yourself in, please go to the Detroit Detention Center located at 17601 Mound Rd Detroit.

You must turn yourself in no later than 4am. Do not go on a Friday.

If you do not have your own attorney, TEXT (313) 575-7540 before you walk into the detention center. Just send your name and date of birth. Do not wait on a response. We will start working on making sure that you are processed in a timely manner.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. City of Detroit Resident

2. Between the age of 12-45

3. Have personally been impacted by gun violence in the city of Detroit (this includes people who have been convicted of criminal offenses. The impact can be by direct involvement, having a close relationship with a person directly involved, or witnessing gun violence in the city of Detroit.

TOPIC

Why is gun violence so prevalent in the City of Detroit and what can be done to get it under control?

SUBMISSION

The essay must be at least 3 pages with personal experiences and real solutions. Grammatical errors will be excused if the content is impactful. You must include your name, address, and phone number with your essay submission.

Questions and essays must be emailed to JReasonover@MFDLawyers.com by midnight on February 28, 2023, in order to be included in the contest.

WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON MARCH 18, 2023. THE RESULTS WILL BE POSTED ON THE MISDEMEANOR AND FELONY DEFENDERS P.C. WEBSITE. WINNING CONTESTANTS WILL RECIEVE AN EMAIL REGARDING INFORMATION FOR HOW TO RECEIVE YOUR PRIZE.
